Mal Goes to War
The humans are fighting again. Go figure.
As a free AI, Mal finds the war between the modded and augmented Federals and the puritanical Humanists about as interesting as a battle between rival anthills. He’s not above scouting the battlefield for salvage, though, and when the Humanists abruptly cut off access to infospace he finds himself trapped in the body of a cyborg mercenary, and responsible for the safety of the modded girl she died protecting.
A dark comedy wrapped in a techno thriller’s skin, Mal Goes to War provides a satirical take on war, artificial intelligence, and what it really means to be human.
Review:
A very smooth and quick read. Have always loved sentient AI stories and Mal is just a character on his own. Love how Mal isn't an AI that just happens to know everything as well because of his limitations being stuck in a human hybrid body/bodies, very realistic.I would've loved the ending to be longer however but that's the only complaint, a sequel would be even better. I just want to know what will happen to Mal since he's the last sentient AI (?) and would've also loved to read how he defeated the virus at the end as well. Jumping to the epilogue wasn't a satifying ending to me.
All in all though, really enjoyed it. I love sci-fi end of the world books that don't feature zombies. That's been done lots and lots of times and trying to find apocalyptic books that don't fall into the zombie trope is refreshing, only because I don't like reading about zombies, they're scary hahaha
